GOFY’s Progress & Why Youth Empowerment is Important

I am thrilled and honored to have this opportunity to write my first blog for GOFY! My experience as the secretary has been a positive addition to my life. I can’t say it is easy because it takes a lot of hard work and determination for a startup organization to run, but I know that a few years from now, I can look back at this blog and reflect on how much GOFY has grown.

The team have made tremendous progress over the past year to get the process rolling for GOFY. I am happy to announce our first upcoming event this month on March 19, 2016. The event will focus on two themes: to celebrate GOFY’s first year anniversary and to allow us the opportunity for our first outreach/introduction of GOFY to the community. Refreshments will be provided to attendees. Special thanks to Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. in Germantown, Maryland for their support and making it possible to provide refreshments at our event. We kindly ask for your support to help spread the word to your families and friends and to join us at our special event. The event details are posted at the top of each of our webpages. Please contact our President (Gimie Doherty) at gdoherty@gofyouth.org for any questions.

On another note, I would like to take some time to stress the importance of youth empowerment. GOFY’s vision is to empower youth through interactive educational opportunities that will help them overcome their challenges and pave their way towards a successful future. Believe it or not, youth empowerment is supported all over the world.

Below is a short 2-minute video I came across regarding youth empowerment in Europe:

Spejderne. “Why youth empowerment?” Online video clip. YouTube. YouTube, 16 August 2013. Web. 09 February 2016.

It is encouraging to see that others from across the world have similar views and ideas on how youth empowerment can have a positive impact on their lives. I am very excited to see GOFY implementing the concept of youth empowerment within our programs in the near future!

Sincerely,

Angel Li, Secretary/Communications Specialist
